Steel Magnolias

Women's Ministry

Our Mission Statement

Women living life to its fullness, joy, and strength of mind, body, and soul through fellowship and serving. Whether you are young or seasoned in your faith, single, married, widowed, or somewhere in between, there is a place for you in Steel Magnolias. Our desire is to build lasting friendships, support one another through every season of life, serve our church and community with love, and deepen our relationship with Jesus Christ.

The name Steel Magnolias represents the beauty, grace, resilience, and unwavering strength that God places within His daughters. Like the magnolia, we are called to bloom with gentleness and love. Like steel, we are strengthened by our faith to endure life's challenges with courage and hope.

Our ministry is inspired by Proverbs 31:25:

"She is clothed in strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come."

Times have changed in the last 2 years, but our mission has not!  The world still needs Christ, missionaries still need to go and serve, and prayers still need to be lifted before the Father.  There is still work to be done in helping people and sharing God’s love.

Here at Somerville First Baptist, we have 3 Women on Mission Groups that meet in homes or here at our church.

Their meetings involve praying for missionaries here and around the globe, funding mission projects in our community as well as other countries, and learning about missionaries and their experiences in their mission fields.

We also sponsor the GA (Girls in Action - Girls Grades 1-6), RA (Royal Ambassadors - Boys Grades 1-6) and Mission Friends (Ages Preschool and Kindergarten) which meet every Wednesday at 6:00 pm

A few of our mission emphasis are the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering, the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering and the Tennessee Golden Offering.  We also help our local schools, our local nursing homes, Fayette Cares as well as other needs in our community.
